The month of May is Exercise is Medicine month, a movement started and promoted by ACSM and affiliates. Their nationwide call to action, Exercise is Medicine, has been recognized by congress, medical communities, and many health professionals. Exercise is Medicine (EIM) intends to bring awareness to people everywhere of the power of exercise. Studies show a strong relationship between regular exercise and the treatment or prevention of over 40 chronic diseases. Wow! Learn more about ACSM and EIM month here.
In honor of EIM month, let’s all try to be a little bit more active! Set a goal for yourself, share it below, and use our community accountability to make it happen. On May 31st, the Rockingham County Fair will be hosting their 2nd Annual On A Mission 5k. Their mission uses the proceeds to fund outreach projects like Mercy House, Bridge of Hope, and Spotswood Elementary school. Your mission can be to make this a month of health! At the end of the month, I challenge you to join me at the On A Mission 5k. The Green Hat and I will be there. Will you? Find out more about the race here.
This month, my goal is to do something for my health every day. I’ll be rotating between cardio, strength, and flexibility. It’s important to change up your routine and keep a balanced approach to wellness (you don’t need to be killing it every day; that’s just ridiculous!). Your body needs days of rest, but it also needs days of challenge. If you have any questions, feel free to use me as your sounding board in the comments section below!
Happy May 1, everyone, and here’s to a month of improved health and happiness for everyone!
