Hello, November! We’ve been enjoying unusually mild temperatures lately, for which I’m extremely grateful! There’s something about gorgeous, sunshiney days, crisp blue skies, and firey autumn leaves that clears the mind and centers the soul. I’m officially on maternity leave waiting for our wee babe to decide when to grace us with his/her presence. And I couldn’t be more blessed to be able to take time from work to prepare our home and myself for the epic journey that’s ahead.
That being said, I’ve been sitting on this product review for MONTHS and simply getting distracted by other things (and prioritizing some serious napping to help get over a cold), but it’s finally time for this post.
Maternity bras. Made for easy access to the goods and not a ton of support.
Sports bras. Made to strap ’em down and allow you the freedom to run, jump, and do whatever you want without having to think about your tatas.
Is there a way for them to coexist? I’m unconvinced.
My last product review of the Juno Adjustable Bra still stands as my favorite all around Mama/Sports Bra combo. Sadly, while this bra is SPECTACULAR for sports, it’s not so good for every day bra wearing. (Read the full review here).
Which lead me on a quest to find a good option for everyday active mommas. The only other bra I was able to find easily was the Motherhood Maternity Sports Bra. I bought mine in-store and got 2 in the size I was at the time, and 2 the next size up (and it’s a good thing I did, because they are the only 2 bras that fit right now!).
The Motherhood Maternity Sports Bra, and my ~30 week baby bump.
The coverage is good, the fabric holds up well, and the cups keep the girls pretty well stationary for low-impact activities like walking, yoga, or sleeping.
BUT! BUT! Oh goodness, there is a major flaw in this design.
Seams. On the insides of the cups. That run directly across your nips for maximum irritation.
WHAT?! Who designed THAT?! I’m not sure if the manufacturers were intending for all mommas to be wearing pads with their bras or what, but after a few hours of wearing one of these bras for work I couldn’t wait to get rid of it by the time I got home! I was constantly trying to readjust where the seams sat on my skin to try and get some relief.
Annoying to be sure, but hardly a deal breaker for me…until…
Until I outgrew all my other bras and have been wearing this style non-stop for a few days. And, I kid you not, I’ve got scabs and raw spots from those stinking seams!! NOT COOL, Motherhood. Not remotely cool.
WHY? Why would you put a seam there?!
Motherhood Maternity Sports Bra
Size/Fit: True to size/Little bit of room
Comfort: Awful, itchy. That seam is the WORST.
Impact Level: Low/None
Price: $ Low range expense, not worth the investment unless you’re going to religiously wear pads
Believe me, I’ve just ordered a number of other maternity bras so that I don’t have to wear these anymore. And I’ve switched back to wearing pre-pregnancy bras that are WAY too small just to get away from those seams.
Have you tried this particular style bra before? What has your experience been? Do you have any advice for active mommas trying to find the right gear?
